Changing coolant pump
okay I need to do this on my 170 V5, im almost sure its the source of THE most annoying chirping sound in the world. I just need someone to confirm for me that the engine does or doesnt need jacking up to allow the pump room to be removed?
Guides for the vr6 say this is necessary and that theres only 1.5 inches of space before the old pump would hit an engine mount. ive measured the space in the v5 and theres nearly 5 inches of space.
Could anyone advise me?
Im aware this isnt exactly a how-to but I promise to take pictures and do a write up on it, the whole internet seems not to have this information for me at all!
cheers guys.

Re: Changing coolant pump
Hi, there's a very similar thread on the Mk VI forums - the best response is:
I've done lots and never even removed the engine mounts on the V5s.
Leave the belt on, loosen the 3 (M6/8 triple square) pulley bolts.
Slacken the belt tensioner, lock it with locking pin if you have one.
Remove belt from pulley, remove 3 pulley bolts and remove pulley.
Remove the 3 (M6 triple square) waterpump bolts and pull the pump out.
Reverse for fitting the new pump. It's not too bad of a job, with a couple tools needed. Expect lots of coolant to pour out when you pull the pump.
Hope this helps,
Dobbs
